Child Development Center
First Baptist Church Child Development Center offers preschool age children the opportunity to grow and learn in a loving Christian environment. Teachers provide a well-rounded curriculum that is presented on an age appropriate level. Daily activities include Bible stories, Bible verses, and prayer time. The preschool program runs from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, with extended care being offered by the daycare. Children are taught such skills as letter and number recognition, name recognition, and basic writing skills. Constructive playtime gives children the opportunity to interact with each other and develop their social skills.
The preschool and daycare departments have teamed up with outside resources in the community to extend the learning experience in the classroom. Compuchild is a program that teaches children early in life to be comfortable with using a computer. Twice a month instructors bring their computer into the school and teach basic computer skills in the form of playing fun computer games.
The Book Mobile from the Baldwin County Library Cooperative comes bi-weekly with books for our children to enhance our units of study. This promotes early reading.
At various times during the year, the Child Development Cents hosts special and programs and activities for our families to enjoy. Some of these include 'Down on the Farm', The Thanksgiving Feast, The Winter Snowball Festival and The Spring Art Show.
We also work closely with "Care House" and the Department of Human Resources in having toy drives for foster children in the area, and with St Jude's Children's Hospital with our annual Trike-A-Thon. We stay very busy and have lots of fun!
At First Baptist Church Child Development Center we believe that it is very important to combine a Christian background with basic learning skills. Together these tools can provide a well-balanced background that children will need when they advance to public school. Our main objective is to provide a happy Christian environment, bridge a gap between home and public school, and provide opportunities for self-expression, investigation, and participation in-group activities.
